New API: Token – First Buyers – Identify the Earliest Buyers of Any Solana Token

Birdeye Data now provides the Token – First Buyers API, a Solana endpoint that returns the earliest wallets to buy a given token and shows whether each one is still holding, has added more, or has sold. Solana developers can build early-wallet analytics, token launch dashboards, and smart money tracking from a single call, with no custom transaction indexing to maintain.

What’s New?

On Solana, a token can go from launch to peak in minutes, and its earliest wallets often set the tone for everything that follows. The First Buyers API returns a ranked list of those wallets, classifies each one by its current position, and includes the metrics you need to read early-holder behavior over time.

First Buyers – Token: GET /token/v1/first-buyers

  • token_address: Query the earliest buyers for a specific Solana token mint address.
  • position status: Classify each wallet by current state — buy_more, hold, sell_partial, or sell_all.
  • wallet metrics: Return first buy volume, total buy volume (with USD values), and initial vs current holdings for every ranked wallet.
  • tags: Access wallet labels such as dev, sniper, bundler, insider, and smart_trader directly from the response.
  • summary counts: Read page-level summary counts to see the distribution of position status across the returned buyers.
  • offset / limit: Paginate through results with up to 100 buyers per request. offset + limit must not exceed 1000.
  • coverage: Retrieve up to the top 1000 first buyers per token with pagination support.
  • x-chain: Uses the Solana chain header. The endpoint is available on Solana.
  • use case: Build early-buyer leaderboards, launch quality checks, dev and insider wallet monitoring, holder-retention views, and smart money discovery feeds.
  • best practice: Read the first page for the earliest, highest-signal wallets, then page deeper only when a product needs the full 1000-wallet set. Use the position status field to segment early conviction from early exits.

The endpoint is available on Lite, Starter, Premium, Business, and Enterprise packages.

Why First Buyer Data Matters on Solana

On Solana, a token’s earliest buyers carry some of the clearest signal in the market. They show who was positioned before the crowd, from snipers and bundlers to genuine early conviction, and how they behaved once the token started to move.

Price and volume tell you what a token did. First buyer data tells you who got there first and what they did next. A wallet that bought at the start and keeps adding reads very differently from one that bought first and has already sold in full, even when the price chart looks identical.

Because Birdeye Data resolves first buyer identity, position status, and per-wallet volume server-side, you get all of this from a single call instead of replaying transaction history. Applications can rank early conviction, flag early exits, monitor dev, sniper, bundler, and insider wallets, measure early-holder retention, and surface tokens whose earliest buyers are still accumulating before that signal reaches the broader market.

Solana First Buyers API Use Cases and Best Practices

  • Segment by position status: Use buy_more, hold, sell_partial, and sell_all to separate early conviction from early exits. This powers launch quality scores and holder-retention views.
  • Read summary counts first: Page-level summary counts give a fast distribution of position status before you process individual wallets, which keeps dashboards and scoring logic lightweight.
  • Page only when needed: The first page returns the earliest, highest-signal wallets. Request additional pages only when a product needs the full 1000-buyer set.
  • Respect the pagination limit: Request up to 100 buyers per call and keep offset + limit at or below 1000.
  • Combine with wallet tags: Use the tags field to monitor dev, sniper, bundler, insider, smart_trader, and other labeled wallets among the earliest buyers.
  • Cache completed reads: First buyer identity is stable once captured. Cache the earliest-buyer list and refresh position status on the cadence your product needs.

Common Builder Questions

How do I find the earliest buyers of a Solana token?

Call GET /token/v1/first-buyers with a token_address. The endpoint returns the earliest wallets that bought the token, ranked and paginated, up to the top 1000 buyers.

How do I tell whether early buyers are still holding?

Each wallet includes a position status of buy_more, hold, sell_partial, or sell_all, along with first buy volume, total buy volume, and initial vs current holdings, so you can see exactly what each early wallet did after its first buy.

How many first buyers can I retrieve?

The endpoint returns up to the top 1000 first buyers per token. Request up to 100 buyers per call using offset and limit, keeping offset + limit at or below 1000.
